I can’t imagine what it would be like if future biological parents had to answer the home study questions that adoptive parents do.
Where did you grow up?
What are the names and ages of your siblings and where do they live?
Who are your parents and what do they do?
Did your parents ever fight?
What did your parents fight about?
Who paid the bills in your parents’ home?
Who did the punishing in your parents’ home?
Did your parents discuss punishments beforehand?
Did you witness any domestic violence?
What do you and your spouse argue about?
How do you and your spouse settle conflict?
Do you have any pets?
What if your child is allergic to these pets?
How do you and your spouse show each other affection?
What do you and your spouse like to do for fun?
How much money do you and your spouse make?
How much debt do you and your spouse have?
What is your monthly budget?
What kind of cars do you own?
How big is your house?
How big is your yard?
Is your yard fenced?
Do you have a child safety seat for your car?
What are your plans for daycare if you return to work?
Do you have a will, living will, or estate plan?
And my favorite:
Do you believe in corporal punishment?
And those are just the ones I remember off the top of my head.
Take some time and think of your answers…Think about having to answer them to be qualified to have a baby.
Makes you wonder what a different world it would be.
